Welcome to the Yorkshire Koi Society. The Friendly Club
Whether you have a massive purpose-built pond or a modest backyard setup, we are thrilled to have you join our community. Founded in 1975, the Yorkshire Koi Society (YKS) is one of the oldest and most respected independent koi clubs in the UK. We aren’t just a group of fish owners—we are a family of enthusiasts dedicated to the art, science, and joy of keeping Nishikigoi.
What We’re All About
The YKS is built on a simple foundation: share the knowledge, enjoy the hobby. Our society bridges the gap between casual pond keeping and high-level koi showing. Here, you’ll find a wealth of experience ranging from filtration engineering and water chemistry to the finer points of Japanese koi varieties. The Yorkshire Koi Society is a regional group dedicated to the appreciation, care, and showing of koi carp. Based in Yorkshire, England, the society brings together hobbyists ranging from beginners to experienced koi keepers who share a passion for these ornamental fish.
The society typically organizes regular meetings, talks, and workshops where members can learn about pond construction, water quality management, koi health, and breeding techniques. Guest speakers—often experts in the field—are invited to share knowledge and insights, helping members improve their understanding and skills.
One of the highlights of the Yorkshire Koi Society’s calendar is its koi shows. These events give members and enthusiasts the opportunity to exhibit their fish, compete for awards, and appreciate high-quality koi from across the region. Shows also serve as social gatherings, fostering a sense of community among attendees.
In addition to education and events, the society provides a supportive network where members can exchange advice, experiences, and resources. Whether someone is just starting out or has years of experience, the Yorkshire Koi Society offers a welcoming environment to deepen their interest in koi keeping and connect with like-minded individuals.
